Mission Bay San Diego report- part 2

Okay everyone, this is part two, my report, I took my kayak down to Mission Bay. It is a little trek from where I live in Orange County, but I wanted Mission Bay to be my first location with the kayak. From part 1, Mission Bay is dear to me. Remember, this was my very first expedition with my kayak. I realized early on that I am a novice and have got a lot to learn. I went with all the kayak equipment that I needed and all the fishing gear I needed. I was not able to fish from the kayak. I spent all my time balancing in my kayak.

I got there at Fiesta Island at daybreak, and I had planned to be there for two to three hours. My thinking was my arms would be very sore and tired because I have never paddled before. I tried getting into/launching my kayak and it took me four times flipping out of the kayak to successfully do it. It was very comical, I weigh almost 300 lbs. so, I am sure the few people around me had a good laugh. I finally was able to get in and launch. My mistake was not having my seat in the correct position. My kayak has these two positions, upper and lower. The upper position was very tippy because of this. My next outing, I will have the seat in the lower position so, my center of gravity is lower. I will let you know if this is better. If it is not, I do have outriggers.

They were fish jumping out of the water and that excited me, but I did not want to flip over in the water again so, I just concentrated on paddling and moving the kayak around. I got a lot of practice in, and I cannot wait to get back out there on the water.
