Guide to being healthy

Author- Mike Bass

As you all know, I am fat and out of shape. I talk briefly about it from time to time. I poke humor at it stating I am ‘old, fat, and out of shape’ and that ‘I own it’. However, the last couple of months have been very difficult for me. I was not fat growing up. In my twenties, I figured I could let myself go and I ballooned. I reached 200 lbs. rather easily then 220 then 240. I am 5 foot 8 inches tall so, this is a problem. Finally, about ten years ago, I reached 260 and stayed there for a long while. I had heart surgery in 2023, and this caused me to gain more weight. I have been at 315 since November of last year. This caused a lot of physical and emotional issues. I want to continue living life to its fullest by experiencing it head on like kayak fishing and doing activities with my wife. These two things are what I love to do. It has been very hard just to be motivated to get out on the water. I have issues with my knees and walking/climbing stairs is very difficult, I am only 57 years old!

I must do something about it. I have learned a lot of things relating to weight loss over the years. The simplest way, in my opinion, is the adage of ‘calories in, calories out.’ This is an idea of not having more calories in then going out and most importantly. As well as move and to be active. I use MyFitnessPal for a lot of years, off and on and it has helped me stay under 2000 calories a day, recently.  I track my macros, sugar, and fiber. If I hit it every day, I feel that I have done something.

I have not been blogging and submitting videos for a while now, but I am slowly getting back on track. The motivation part is hard and being lazy is not helping either.

I started last week changing my life so, I am only a week into it. I track my calories, making sure it is under 2000 calories for the week. Then, I have been doing chair yoga and have bought a fitness trampoline. I have done these things diligently for that first week, now I am on my second week. My goal is to lose weight so I can kayak fish and do those things with my wife. I am hopeful that in 6-8 weeks, I will be more than on my way to achieving these goals.

Wish me luck.

My other goal is to start a fishing club in a few months so, check back for that.
